Chad La Tourette (Mission Viejo, Calif.) brought the US Open to a fast conclusion with US Open and meet records of 7:48.38 in the 800m freestyle.

'It feels great (to break the record),' La Tourette said through USA Swimming. 'It obviously felt much better than my other swims this week. I felt a little off in my other events. I needed to refocus. I felt really good about this race.'

The new all-time top 10:

7:38.65 Hackett (AUS)
7:39.16 Thorpe (AUS)
7:45.63 Jensen (USA)
7:46.00 Perkins (AUS)
7:46.64 Prilukov (RUS)
7:47.91 Stanczyk (POL)
7:48.38 LaTourette (USA)
7:48.67 Stevens (AUS)
7:48.91 Vendt (USA)
7:49.22 Kubusch (GER)

Nick Thoman (Cincinnati, Ohio) got even closer to Aaron Peirsol's world 100m back record when he clocked 52.91 leading off his team's medley relay. He won the solo event in 52.92. Teammate Hayley McGregory (Austin, Texas) took the medley relay out in 59.31 for another fast hit out, helping the Longhorn Aquatics squad to a US Open meet record of 4:06.56.

Continuing his world tour, Reuters man Jonathon Newton, of Australia, took the 50m free in a swift 22.17. All the best to Mr Newton, who, in his search of a calm retreat, treated the girls in the media room to a near naked warm-up recently at Liverpool in England. Your legend is secure.
