FINA: 100 Today
2008-07-19
Happy Birthday FINA: the international federation was founded a century ago today

Today is FINA's 100th birthday. SwimNews salutes the men and women who led the way back in 1908 and the early years of standardisation of swimming, diving and water polo. The international federation will celebrate with a small dinner in London, city of its birth during the Olympic Games of 1908, for the founding nations before the big bash in August during the Olympic Games in Beijing.

You can read about FINA's first 100 years in a book and disc entitled Aquatics and edited by Craig Lord. Derek Parr, a long-time Reuter correspondent in foreign and sports news acted as Deputy Editor on the project, which was commissioned by FINA. Camillo Cametti served as Editorial Consultant and Pedro Adrega as Production Editor. More details to follow - on the work and the team of people who put it all together - when Aquatics is released for sale next month. Copies will be available through www.fina.org. Aquatics covers all five FINA disciplines.
