Three world records was the final tally at the sixth competition of the 1997 FINA World Cup in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The record performances, which remain pending until ratified by FINA, came in the men's 200 butterfly as Denis Pankratov, RUS, bettered the existing record of 1:53.05 by Franck Esposito, FRA in 1994, with 1:52.64.

Marcel Wouda, NED, touched out Matthew Dunn, AUS in the 400 I.M. 4:05.59 to 4:05.62, both under the existing world record of 4:06.03 by Jani Sievinen, FIN, from 1996.

Xue Han, CHN, bettered the women's 50 breaststroke record for the second time this week to 30.77, the old record was her own from 1996 with a 30.98.

European records were bettered by Jorg Hoffmann, GER, in the 400 free with 3:40.78 just shy of the existing world mark of 3:40.46, Konstantin Ushkov, RUS bettered the 100 fly record with his 52.26.

Canada's Tara Sloan, UCSC, bettered Allison Higson's 100 breaststroke record of 1:08.26, in finishing second to Xue Han with her 1:07.96.
