RIO DE JANEIRO - Record swim for Jose Martin Meolans from Argentina in a series of head-to-head short course (25 m) sprints races last Sunday (Sept. 6).
Earlier in Rio at an exhibition 4x50 free relay involving swimmers from three countries they posted the fastest time ever for the non-recognized distance.
Meolans led-off with 22.14, then Gustavo Borges, BRA, split 21.89, Fernando Scherer, BRA, 21.91 and Bill Pilczuk, USA anchored with 21.66. Their total time was 1:47.60, faster than the previous fastest time of 1:27.94 by Sweden in 1992. Relay records can only be recognized when all the member are from the same country.
On Sunday, September 6, in a series of head-to-head races, Meolans swam 21.84 in beating Borges who did a 21.94. In another race, Scherer, with 22.17 beat Pilczuk who swam 22.38. Meolans' time ties for seventh fastest in the all time short course times, and is a record for Argentina.
